Talks by the author
For some years I have given a talk entitled:
‘Navvy life at Batty Green. Who were the men that built the Settle-Carlisle Railway?’
This comprises a look at the lifestyle and habits of the railway navvies, and then goes on to describe how such men and their families brought to life their own temporary township at Batty Green. I have talked to many WI groups, local history societies and other groups, mainly in North Yorkshire and Lancashire. If you represent such a society then please get in touch. My usual fee is quite small if the venue is reasonably close to my home in Harrogate: if I have to travel further I will need to ask more!
I am also available to talk about:
“The notorious Emma Hamilton.”
This is a fully illustrated talk showing many of the famous portraits that were painted of Lady Hamilton, as well as the places and people associated with her controversial life. Through these visuals I hope to illustrate the extraordinary life she led. My fee for this talk is again moderate if the venue is reasonably close to my home in Harrogate: if I have to travel further I will need to ask more! I will bring my own equipment if necessary.
